Thanks for sharing your experience with Vital Choice, Jen! I've only had the salmon (sockeye) and shrimp, but plan on trying the scallops next time I order. I agree, the quality is excellent!

I recently ordered from Vital Choice, and the quality is OUTSTANDING!!! When I opened the first can of tuna to make a casserole ( with quality, real food ingredients of course :) ), I was AMAZED! It was a partial filet... not that nasty, watery, shredded stuff from the grocery store. It smelled and looked so fresh that I couldn't help tasting it. You can eat the stuff right from the can. A few nights later, I served it straight from the can on top of a salad. I cannot stress the quality of this product enough.

We also love the salmon (made into salmon cakes), and the scallops grilled with fresh rosemary and pastured bacon.

Sorry to go on and on, but I have fallen in love with Vital Choice, and will never purchase my seafood elsewhere. At least for now, while I live nowhere near a coast.

Great article, Vin!

Thank you all for your comments!

Stephen - I'm glad you found the article to be informative. Another thing to keep in mind about wild salmon is that the definition of wild is sometimes stretched and salmon that is labeled and sold as wild may in fact be farmed.

Melissa - That's a great idea, although I wonder how reliable the answer would be. I completely agree with avoiding seafood unless you trust that it's from a good source.

Sharona - That sounds like an excellent farmer's market! Just be sure that the fishermen are fishing in clean water. Of course, clean is a relative term sense all water on the planet now has at least some trace of contamination in it.

Walter - The solution is easy. Buy wild seafood from reputable places like <a href="http://www.myaffiliateprogram.com/u/vitalc/b.asp?id=2332" title="Vital Choice Seafood and Organics" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Vital Choice</a>. :)

Scott - You're quite welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I agree about Vital Choice. I've been ordering from them for a while and have been very pleased.

That's too bad, I eat farm fish most of the time. What am I going to do if that's the trend? I guess I'm going to settle for veggies. :-)

I feel so lucky that I can purchase salmon, sable fish and wild prawns from local fisherman at the local Farmer's Market. They fish in the summer and bring it back in the Fall. Their are two that I frequent and I'm happy that one of them is hanging around for the summer, so I'm able to get his wonderful fish. The flavor is fresh and you can really taste the difference too. We also have local ranchers that sell grass fed beef at the Farmer's Market.

I aways ask in restaurants, even getting up to the manager or owner, where they get their seafood. It is SO important for good health and you're just better off skipping seafood entirely if you're not sure about the source. Another great article, Vin!

WOW Vin, this is a lot of stuff I didn't know. I knew wild salmon was better but I didn't really know why.
