Are You Being Misled By the USDA’s Certified Organic Label?

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

USDA Organic CertificationOrganic food is an important part of a healthy diet, but because of its growing popularity, large corporations are taking advantage of the opportunity and are deteriorating the reliability of the USDA’s organic certification requirements in the process.

The USDA’s organic seal is the most widely recognized and trusted marker of organic foods. For this label to be used on food products, they should be free of unnatural ingredients, should not be genetically modified or irradiated, and should be from crops that are grown without chemicals and livestock that are raised without antibiotics or hormones. Despite the many benefits of certified organic food, it’s unfortunately not always as healthy or pure as you may think.

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Deep ThoughtWith the advancement of science and the ease of sharing information through the internet, it’s become easier than ever to find answers to our questions and problems. However, because of this ease of access, it’s easy to assume that there’s always only one correct answer and that it’s easy to find. Whether it be in regard to health or life in general, people who fall victim to this common trap are failing to recognize one of the most important aspects of achieving success.

Be part of the revolution aimed at making our country a healthier place to live!

The Problem

With the major flaws in our medical system, the political corruption that influences them, and the corporate greed that emphasizes profit over well being, the odds of enjoying good health and preventing disease are stacked against us.

Our medical system is focused on chasing symptoms instead of preventing disease, and this is mostly a result of the pharmacuetical industry’s influence. The lobbying power that large corporations have over the government doesn’t help either. This is evident from examples like the FDA’s change of heart with stevia, their hasty approval of the disastrous drug Vioxx, and the USDA’s push to mandate NAIS.

Friday, February 20th, 2009

If you value your health and your freedom to choose unpolluted food, then your help is needed. The USDA is trying to mandate a program that will be so costly and bureaucratic for small farmers that it will likely drive them out of business.

Small farmers are the most significant source of high quality organic food. If you don’t understand why their longevity so important, I suggest you read my articles about toxic meat and why to buy organic.

NAIS – The National Animal Identification System

NAIS is an animal identification system that the USDA has been trying to mandate for about 5 years. According to the USDA, the program is intended to improve food safety, but in reality, it’s more likely to worsen it.

7 Major Reasons to Go Organic

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

You may think you’re eating well by consuming vegetables and unprocessed whole foods, but they too come with some significant risks.

Health or Profit?

Like any other industry, the food industry is primarily concerned about making money. That may sound harsh and hard to believe, but when you think about it, it’s really not. The tobacco and alcohol industries don’t seem too concerned about helping to kill hundreds of thousands of people each year.

This precedent set by the tobacco and alcohol industries makes it easy for the food industry to prioritize profit in a way that significantly affects our health. However, food is essential for health and survival. Contamination of this basic requirement for life has significant consequences that are far more subtle than those resulting from alcohol and tobacco use.
