7 Ways We’ve Failed Miserably at Trying to Outsmart Nature

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Failed Attempts at Outsmarting NatureWith our high level of intelligence and the vast amount of technological innovation that we enjoy today, it’s ironic that excellent health is so elusive to so many people. Without any of the modern technology that we rely on today, our primitive ancestors were able to enjoy exceptional health and rarely encountered the many chronic and debilitating conditions that are so common today. These people had an intimate knowledge of nature and a tremendous appreciation for it which is something that we’ve lost without reliance on technology.

While our primitive ancestors were forced to live in agreement with nature, we seem to do everything we can to outsmart it, and we almost always fail. The following are some of the more notable and devastating mistakes that we’re still making.

Healthy Living is So Easy, a Caveman Can Do It!

Monday, July 13th, 2009

EvolutionAlthough we enjoy many of the great benefits that have resulted from the advancement of modern society, it has significantly changed the way we live, and in many ways, is having very unfortunate effects on our health and quality of life.

With the many conveniences of modern society, most of us have completely lost touch with the basic lifestyle habits that our ancestors followed and evolved on for more than 2 million years. As a result, we also tend to underestimate the intelligence of nature and the important lifestyle factors that allowed many of our ancestors to be lean, strong, happy, and healthy well into their old age.

The Garden of Eating: Cooking Tips for a Healthy Diet

Monday, June 29th, 2009

The Garden of Eating by Rachel Albert-Matesz and Don MateszMost people have become so reliant on the convenience of packaged and processed foods that they feel lost and overwhelmed when they consider transitioning to a healthier diet. Fortunately, with a little motivation and the right information, it’s not nearly as difficult as it may seem at first.

The healthiest diet that you can follow is one that’s based on the natural whole foods we evolved on such as meat, fish, fruit, and vegetables. Despite this, processed forms of grain, dairy, and sugar have become the most prominent foods in the modern diet and this is the reason why so many people are overwhelmed by the thought of limiting themselves to whole foods. Although this is to be expected with the prospect of such a significant change, it’s a change that’s necessary for anyone who’s serious about improving and maximizing their health. Furthermore, there’s a much wider variety of natural whole foods to choose from than most people realize, and as such, a truly healthy diet doesn’t have to be “limiting” at all.

The Deception and Danger of Grain Based Foods

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Dangerous Grains by James Braly and Ron HogganGrain based foods such as cereal, bread and pasta have become a staple of the modern diet. Despite their popularity and the common recommendation to make them the most significant part of your diet, grains are at the root of many serious health issues. Between the number of grain based foods that are highly processed and unhealthy for anyone and the number of people who don’t digest grains well, frequent consumption of these foods can easily lead to life compromising conditions, and if left unaddressed, even premature death.

Many government organizations and so called nutrition experts adamantly state that grain based foods are the foundation of a healthy diet. Unfortunately, this dogmatic perspective is misleading many people and encouraging them to harm their health and live a compromised life.

Why Grass Fed Beef is Better for Your Health

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Grass Fed BeefDespite the fact that humans have evolved on red meat, it’s been unduly regarded as an unhealthy food. While some of this is based on misconception, the health benefits of red meat truly depend on the livestock it comes from and how they’re raised.

As the most popular and widely available type of red meat, beef has been targeted with much of the criticism. While the beef from conventionally raised cattle deserves some of this criticism, grass fed beef is an excellent source of nutrition that promotes good health.

Evolution and Why You’re Fat, Tired and Unhappy

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

CavemanDespite incredible advances in technology and medicine, people are dying at an alarming rate from preventable diseases and are having significant problems with obesity, fatigue and depression. Anyone with half a brain would figure that the advances we’ve achieved should help us live longer, healthier and happier lives, but they haven’t. How can this be?

Our health and well being are dictated by requirements that have resulted from millions of years of evolution. No matter how smart we are, we’ll never be able to change this fact, at least not for another few hundred thousand years. That’s about how long it would take us to start adapting genetically to the unhealthy lifestyle habits that are so common today. Many of us have lost site of the evolutionary factors that brought us to where we are now and have let modern society entice us into a lifestyle that we’re simply not equipped to handle.

Health Just Isn’t My Thing

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Health Just ins't My ThingMany people consider a healthy lifestyle to be a preference, almost as if it were a hobby, but with the prevalence of life threatening disease, can you really afford to have this attitude?

Because much of the health information that’s flooded through mainstream media is so misleading, many people are shocked by the simplicity and effectiveness of natural health. Despite this, they still react as if a healthy lifestyle is only for people with some type of special interest or motivation. This unfortunate mentality ultimately prevents many millions of people from living the long and happy life that they had always pictured and hoped for.

April Fool’s Day and the Joke of Modern Health

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

The Joke of Modern HealthIn the spirit of April Fool’s Day, I’m going to discuss a serious topic that many of us wish was just a joke, but really isn’t.

The majority of today’s mainstream health knowledge is filled with misinformation, contradiction, and even intentional deception. This has a significant impact on our health, and at times, it’s so unbelievable that it really could seem like an awful joke.

It took me a long time to realize that most common knowledge is often incorrect, particularly in regards to health. If it weren’t for my critical nature and my tendency to persistently seek truth, I may have never realized it, and some people never do. Coming to this realization and having the confidence to question common knowledge is one of the most important things you can do for your health.

Metabolic Typing: The Last Diet You’ll Ever Need

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Nearly all diet programs suffer from the same problem. They assume everyone can do well on the same program and this couldn’t be further from the truth. Popular diets like Atkins, South Beach and The Zone all have this downfall in common. For each person that does well on one of these diets, there’s another that does horribly.

The Intelligence of Evolution

Before advances in technology made it easy to travel the world, native cultures were dependent on the food sources that were immediately available to them. If you lived in the Arctic region, this meant a diet of nearly all protein and fat from marine mammals. Conversely, fruit and vegetables would be most abundant for natives of the Tropics. Over millions of years, these people evolved to thrive on the foods that were most accessible.
