There are definitely some disadvantages to all-inclusive, especially if you’re not going to take advantage of free drinks. It can also be a problem if the food isn’t good or if you end up leaving the resort a lot. On the other hand, if the food is good, it could also encourage overeating. Either way, I think it’s worth trying at least once. I’ll be trying it again for sure!

We went to Mexico for our honeymoon years ago. We had the choice of inclusive or pay as you go for meals. For us the pay as you go worked out to be less expensive–particularly because neither of us drink. Normally we’d eat a good breakfast at the resort, have something very light for lunch away from the resort and then eat an early dinner back at the resort. We took a few day trips to visit ruins that included meals as well.

Of course the pricing depends on the resort and I’ve heard other people say that the inclusive option worked out a lot better for them–particularly for people that stay on at the resort the entire time.

Yes, I enjoyed the trip very much. I’ve actually been working on my fitness to improve my tennis game and didn’t let vacation get in the way. At least not too much.

Hi Delores, thanks for sharing your experience with Mexico! I completely agree that enjoying friends and family at home is great too, and if appreciated, it provides a sense of happiness that’s similar to vacation and lasts all year long.

I went to Jamaica about ten years ago, but I didn’t stay at a resort. Although I had fun, I think staying in a resort would have been much better. I hope you have a great time! I know what you mean about drinking Red Stripe, it’s everywhere down there.

We just got back from a cruise to the Bahamas. We did the Mexico trip last year and plan to go to the west coast next winter. I love Mexico. We have property at the Grand Mayan Nuv. Absolutely out of this world. Our business allows us to take as many trips as we like any where we wish to go.
But taking time out and enjoying each other at home is great too. We are planning our next trip soon

A very timely post for me, Vin. I’m headed to Jamaica in March for an all-inclusive vacation and I will be sure to try a “Tropical Coconut” instead of all the Red Stripe I drank last time we went. It sounds delicious!
