Thanks, Hulbert! I'm glad you like the idea of making gradual progress towards improvement. It's such a simple and effective approach, and most importantly, it helps to lessen the shock of change.

Hey what's up Vin? This is my first time stumbling across this website and I just wanted to say nice job! Your article on new year's resolutions is very detailed, especially with your examples on losing weight and what kinds of foods we should eat. I agree that if we take small steps to improve ourselves everyday, such as in your example of trying to lose 2 pounds per week, and just focus on succeeding with that every single time, then it's just a matter of time before we achieve our goals that we set out for in the beginning of the year. Anyway, thanks for sharing this and I hope to see more of you in 2010! :)

Thanks, Steven! Same to you!

Yes, I agree that it's just like multitasking, and what's sad is that it's likely to destroy all of the great ambition behind taking on so many challenges at once.

Thanks, Stephen! Happy New Year to you as well!

I completely agree about desire and intended this to be the focus of the article. It goes without saying that everyone wants to be happy, healthy, and fit, but how many people really want it?

Hi Vin, Happiest of New year's to you, hope you had a great one.

I think you have made a great point when you said to 'commit to only one change at a time', if we try and make 10 changes at once it's like multitasking, it just doesn't work. If we focus all our efforts on one change at a time we can do it quicker and with more focus.

Hope to speak to you more in 2010.

Hi Vin and Happy New Year to you!

"it’s absolutely necessary to have an intense desire for the outcome that the change will bring."

This was a great article overall on goals, but I think the sentence above is key. Without that desire nothing else really matters.

Hi Wee, thanks for your comment.

I actually don't make New Year's resolutions either. Fortunately, I have plenty of determination to start making changes in my life as soon as I perceive the need for them.

I think most people who make resolutions do so because they've lacked the necessary determination in the past and are trying to give themselves an extra push through a more formalized commitment. These are the people who I figured this article would be helpful for and I also figured it would go well with the rest of the site since healthy lifestyle habits can be some of the most challenging habits to implement which can be overwhelming for many people.

You have a great New Year too!
