Another huge benefit is that you stop feeding yeast. I've had to cut way back on sugar and carbs to control thrush dating back several months to a round of antibiotics and steroids. In my research, I've discovered that every ongoing physical problem, major or minor, can be attributed to yeast, including my dry skin and dry eyes. I think my sweet and bread cravings were directly related to the yeast demanding to be fed. Our food industry is literally killing us with processed foods.

I'm always leery of diet specific articles and targeting one thing out of an array of things a diet should be focused on . . . but I have felt lately that sugar, especially, really effects me and I find I'm quite addicted to it. So I'm doing my research bit by bit . . . what was written here is just simple and resonates with what I already know deep down. Get off the sugar and refined carbs and eat whole foods . . . simple yet I know I'm in for a battle with my own self.

Thanks for tips and the book reference . . . I'll check that out!

Great read with lots of info. I am somewhat of a newbie at this type of diet, but really want to start making it a healthier lifelong way of eating to best. I have MS and do take meds to slow down the progression, but know diet is a huge factor on my overall wellness. I was on the Swank Diet, which doesn't promote red meat, trying to incorporate the Wahl's Diet and along with the paleo diet. I really like red meat, but haven't been eating much the last 3 years so eating more red meat seems as if I am going against the grain. I am buying fresh organic local produce from my town. I also need to start soaking my almonds which I learned from Brendan Frasier. Tons of good sources for eating better and your recommendations seem to fit best into how I can eat and what I should stay away from. My big thing for exercise is spinning, so between spinning and diet I am trying to do my part in not letting my MS progress...thanks =).

i hate stevia. aside from the nasty aftertaste, it exacerbates my atrial fibrillation, makes my heart start pounding out of my chest. just because something is "natural" doesn't mean it's necessarily safer for you. snake venom is natural.

This is so true. For most of us, we are sensitive to sugar and refined foods. As we age, we become even more sensitive to this western style of eating. Eating whole foods will eliminate many diseases and not only do we lose weight, but our whole body becomes healthy. Great Info! Keep it coming!!

Hi Chris, it's great to hear that you're making an effort to eliminate sugar from your diet! Once you adjust to the change, I bet you'll notice some benefits that you didn't even expect.

There are typically two types of people who live a healthy lifestyle: those who are raised this way, and those who are forced into it by necessity. Based on this, it's a great thing to introduce your kids to healthy habits. However, the later they start, the more accustomed they'll be to junk food, and the more difficult it will be to help them embrace the value of making healthier food choices.

I don't have much experience with getting children to eat well, but I do know that it's human nature to resist when not given a choice. Perhaps if you encourage your kids to try different foods while showing them see that you won't force them to eat what they don't like, perhaps they'll be more receptive. When you prepare meals for them, you can try gradually introducing small amounts of new and healthier foods and maybe even offer some kind of reward for eating them. Over time, they'll hopefully become more accustomed to these new foods and have minimal objection to eating them.

Another consideration is that organic vegetables tend to be much more flavorful than conventionally grown vegetables. I find many conventionally grown vegetables to be practically tasteless, and this certainly isn't going to help convince a child to eat them.

In regard to protein, seafood is a great source, and there's nothing wrong with it being your primary source. Just be sure to include variety and be conscious of the potential for pollution, particularly heavy metals. For excellent quality seafood, I recommend Vital Choice.

Eggs are a great source of protein, but because many people develop sensitivities to them, it's best to not eat them on a repetitive basis. Nuts are a decent source, but they're not a complete source which means they don't contain all of the essential amino acids. In addition, nuts should be soaked to reduce some of the antinutrients that they contain, especially if you're going to eat a lot of them. Dairy is generally regarded as a good source of protein, but milk is another common food sensitivity. In addition, there's the issue of pasteurization reducing it's nutritional quality and the concerns related to a1 beta casein. Based on this, I'd choose these foods sparingly and rely as much as possible on a variety of high quality seafood.

Additionally do you have any suggestions on how pesci vegetarians like me who eats fish, but not chicken or beef, can get the amount of protein needed to follow this regime?

Hi John, congratulations on your great improvements! It sounds like you've made great progress and I hope it will inspire others.

You might want to consider doing some back exercises to balance the improved strength in your chest and shoulders that you've been developing. If you don't, it might promote forward shoulder posture as well as strength imbalances, and many things can go downhill from there. Pull ups and bent over dumbbell rows are two good options. If you can't do a pull up, you can use a chair to give yourself some assistance. Also, don't forget about your lower body. ;)

I used to be type 2 , hypertensive , fattyliver , etc, etc, at 48 years old , I knew I needed to turn this around . Eliminated all sugars , including maltose , started doing pushups . Stopped all medications . That was 10 months ago . I could barely do 10 pushups , now My workout is 150 pushups . Massive pains in my arms and shoulder are gone . I've lost 30 pounds or more . My digestion is completley different . My pants barely stay up . I look like I'm lifting again ! The huge hunger pangs are gone . I get full much sooner . I sleep better . Energy is now sustained all day . Guys , maltose is a real problem . I never realized how much . Now I do ! Live long .

Hi Kat,

The Diet Cure is definitely a great resource. Let me know if it helps you.

I'm not sure what you mean by a paleo "challenge", but the true benefit of a paleo or primal diet is to stick with it long term and make it your way of life. Once you do, your tastes will likely adjust, and I think you'll be able to enjoy things like chocolate on occasion without it being an issue. This has been the case for me as well as many other people.
