Thank you all for your inspiring comments!

Marie - I'm thrilled to hear that you're enjoying the site! I completely agree that a whole food diet is common sense and am glad that you're enjoying it's benefits. Like your husband, I also lost 30 pounds after eliminating processed foods. I wasn't even trying to lose weight and didn't know I had 30 pounds to spare! It was quite a reality check! :) My mood and energy level improved significantly as well.

I too feel sorry for the people who are being misled by the propaganda and are living compromised lives with disease and discomfort as a result. It's unacceptable and is what motivated me to start this blog.

Jason - Yes, it's such a shame how disinterested some people are in their health. I think many of them fail to recognize the importance of health in being able to live a long and fulfilling life. I find that it helps to tell them that it doesn't have to be all or nothing. It's very possible to be healthy while still enjoying the occasional indulgence. The 80/20 rule is a great guideline for this.

Stephen - Exactly! Surgery will only work if you eat less, so what's the point? There are many safer ways for one to punish themselves for overeating!

No eating at the computer! It's bad for your digestion! I have to be honest, I do it too and it's something I need to change.

Faith - During the early 1900s, thyroid problems were becoming wide spread in areas of the United States and the problem was believed to be iodine deficiency. This why nearly all table salt is now iodized. As long as you have a well rounded diet, you shouldn't have to worry about iodine deficiency, and even if you do have reason to worry, you can get a good supply of iodine from seafood, kelp, eggs, dairy, and a few other foods. If necessary, I think even an iodine supplement would be a better choice than table salt.

Another great article. It scares me to think what I used to do for weight loss back when I was younger. No more.

This Full Bar is just another example of a quick-fix myth that will never achieve lasting results. You'd think at this point people would start to realize that something in our society is terribly wrong!

Interesting point about roasted almonds. I knew raw were healthier but wasn't exactly sure why. I eat raw almonds but tend to prefer roasted almond butter. Will keep that in mind.

Also, Vin--while natural sea salt is of course preferable, do you have an opinion on how iodine is supposedly an essential nutrient and natural salt doesn't provide this? I've even seen warning labels on my sea salt containers.

Thanks for great blog!

Vin, another excellent article. Unfortunately, individuals in modern society are unwilling to pay the price required to achieve what they want. I never understood the surgery thing. I always understood that that worked by forcing you to eat less. Wouldn't just eating less do the same thing? I'm typing this while eating my lunch salad that is full of raw vegetables and some chicken. I will be totally full by the time I am done and nobody can get fat or stay fat eating that way either.

Great article, just another example of how most Americans and western society for that matter just wants a quick easy fix. We like our junk food and we don't want to give it up but we want to look like a model or movie star. It's frustrating being in the natural health industry and having so many patients not really want to get better or healthier. I frequently tell patients to go to Mercola.com but will probably start doing the same with your blog. Keep up the good work.

I would like to take this opportunity to let you know that I REALLY enjoy this website and have been trying to catch up on all of your archives. My husband is a personal trainer and with every article I read, I feel like it is him talking! You two have a lot of the same thoughts (which is common sense, really!), and even though I have heard a lot of this before, everything is very well written and I always gain a lot of new insight after visiting. I have just started the "whole foods diet" (it should just be called the "common sense diet" though!) of cutting out refined and processed foods and feel awesome after just two weeks. I have always enjoyed healthy foods, but now I am being strict and not allowing any processed foods at all. My husband got serious with it about 6 months ago and has lost 30lbs, so I thought it was about time I hop on the wagon of health! Not only is he healthier, but I've noticed his mood has improved as well (not that he needed it before, but he is definitely more positive). Since starting this lifestyle and researching the harmful effects that the modern diet had/has on the population, I wholeheartedly feel sorry for people who are oblivious or indifferent to this. Thank you for all of your insight and keep it up! Instead of trying to explain and convince people that the diet fads, processed and hydrogenated foods, added sugar, "low fat," high fructose corn syrup, etc, etc are harmful, I will just direct them here and they can read for themselves. Most of the American population has "drank the kool-aid" (pun intended) and propaganda on these fads that is spewing out from all outlets, and it is ingrained in their heads. It's very sad and though it probably seems as though you may only reach a small percentage of people through this website, just remember: " Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead -- As I said, keep it up!
